The Balloon Effect

Monday, November 8, 2010

What started out as a simple exercise ballooned into a full blown outfit this past weekend. I've pretty much decided to use this pattern, the Feliz by Farbenmix, for Avery's Christmas dress this year. For me, Farbenmix patterns run a little on the big side, but Avery is a little on the big side too. All this to say, I wasn't sure what size to make the Christmas dress. I had found a seller on etsy that made the Feliz in one layer instead of the over and under dress. I figured this would be a quick way to decide if I was on track with my sizing. After a few emails with the etsy designer, I was all set with how to make the modifications to the pattern. Then I started pulling out fabrics and trims. This quickly got out of hand. I recently received a great bag full of yummy vintage trims from my grandmother. Some of these truly make me swoon. (Yes, I do swoon for fabric and trims.) After I had the cute top, I couldn't stop there either. Thankfully, the Modkid Sophie pattern came together super quick and the fit is spot on. I'm hoping to get photos with my model tomorrow, but I knew I wouldn't be able to capture the details with her in motion.

Fabrics are from Dena Designs, Michael Miller, and Jennifer Paganelli. These Sophie pants are so fun to make. I may become slightly addicted.

  1. Oh my goodness! All so cute! How did the sizing come out? I always think the Feliz is wide and short. But my girlie is narrow and tall so that may be more of the case. Avery is tall too. Everything looks so good! and I must say, I have trim envy! You did a great job combining them! I am taking notes!
