Project Run & Play Sew Along–Week 6

Thursday, February 14, 2013

We have finally arrived at the final week of this season of Project Run & Play. I always have mixed feelings about the end. It is nice to break away from the scheduled sewing, photographing, and posted, but I will also miss that push to stay creative and productive. This week is all about our personal style. As for my personal style, I love pretty prints and coming up with unique fabric combinations. My favorite mediums are knits and quilting cottons. I love finding looks to recreate using patterns I have. I think I hit all of those notes with this week’s outfit.

I’ve had this magazine cutout pinned up for a couple years now. I really love the style of this Mini-Boden denim jacket with its pleats and rows of topstitching.

To pull it off, I started with McCall’s M5697 pattern view A. I rounded out the collar, lengthened the sleeves, and switched out the gathers for pleats. I went with the cropped jacket to let the shirt peak out the bottom and break up the denim.

The topstitching at the collar and sleeves is such a simple way to add interest and texture. I love those pretty topstitches all in a row!

It probably wouldn’t be my signature style without a little Sis Boom fabric. This is from Jennifer Paganelli’s Happy Land line. I was contacted by Popolok Designs to test out their Cece Top pattern. I think the peplum bottom gives this such a sweet look. The vintage dotted bias tape made the perfect accent at the hemline.

This is the third invisible zipper in my sewing history, and this one only required a brief use of the seam ripper. I’ll give a full pattern review next week for this top.

I dug out my pattern from my very first sew along with Project Run & Play for the pants. These are short leggings with little circle skirts at the cuffs. I love how the circle bottoms compliment the peplum top. Thankfully, I had enough of the vintage trim to finish off the hem here too.

My tricks these days for getting any cooperation with photos is pretend play, lip gloss, and maybe the occasional self inflicted wound. It seems Mommy getting a boo boo is rather hysterical.

It’s a wrap! I hope you’ve enjoyed this season of PR&P as much as I have. Season 7 of PR&P promises to be equally delightful since they are bringing back some of the All Stars. Stay tuned! And….

Happy Valentine’s Day!
