Sewing Japanese Style

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

I finally had a chance to dig into my Japanese sewing book that I purchased on this trip to New York City at Kinokuniya Bookstore. From the models to the fabrics, this book is so beautiful that I want to keep it out at all times. It says it is part of a Heart Warming Life Series, but that’s the only part in English. I’ve tackled a few European patterns, so I tried not to let the fact that every single character is foreign intimidate me.

These are the sweet shorts I decided to try out first. Didn’t I tell you that the photography and styling is beautiful?!? That cute square neck top is on my list too! This Japanese Sewing Books Blog provided excellent help with some of the translations. Between it and the diagrams I was able to work my way through it all.

I think sizing was the biggest guesswork for me considering Avery’s height compared with Japanese petiteness. Thankfully erring on the larger end worked out wonderfully.

I just love these bubble pockets with a drawstring bow detail.

Just before starting this project, I stumbled across the You & Mie blog announcing a whole series on Japanese Sewing Books. I can’t wait to see the tips, methods, and books they share with us. I have a feeling a few more of these books will make their way into my sewing library.
