Leggings

As you can see, these poor leggings needed an update. When I saw these cute button tabbed leggings from Tea Collection, I knew that would be the trick to spiff these up a bit.

Here’s how I did it. Cut the leggings about 2” longer than you want the finished length.

Fold the cut edge under 1/2” and sew with a stretch stitch. Usually, I would prefer a twin needle here, but mine happened to break just as I was starting this project. A zig zag stitch works just as well.

For the tabs, I cut two rectangles from the trimmed pant legs and two rectangles from a scrap of muslin. You should have 4 rectangles that measure 1 1/4” by 4”. Then cut a rounded top edge on each rectangle.

Place one knit piece right sides together with one muslin piece and stitch together with 1/4” seam allowance starting and ending at the bottom short edge.

lrb--8

Turn the tab right side out. Fold under the bottom raw edge 1/2” then again 1/2”. Measure up 2” from the bottom hem of the leggings and stitch the folded edge of the tab down with a zig zag stitch on the wrong side of the leggings. Make sure the right side of the tab faces out and you stitch the tab at the outseam of the leggings.

lrb--5

Flip the tab over to the right side of the leggings and hand stitch down with a button covering the zig zag stitch. The legging should bunch up slightly at the tab.

These leggings are the perfect length for spring now with a sassy new detail.
