Modkid Kyoko in Flit & Bloom

Friday, April 21, 2017

In my last post I mentioned this waterfall was across the street from that photo setting. It turned out to be the perfect spot for a photo shoot for an updated Kyoko pattern cover in Patty Young's soon to be released Flit and Bloom fabrics with Riley Blake. I've since learned a little history about the area, and there is literally a round rock over here that I'll have to show you another time. This round rock marked a convenient low-water crossing for wagons, horses, and cattle. There are also grooves in the surrounding rocks that some attribute to the wagons that would drive across the river during the many cattle drives. The history just adds to the beauty of the area.

The Kyoko pattern comes in three size ranges: girls, tweens, and misses. It has been Modkid's best selling paper pattern, and for good reason! I'll be hosting a sew-along for the Kyoko pattern on the Modkid blog at the beginning of May. Be sure to head over there for the details and a discount code that ends today, so hurry.

The Asian inspiration of the Kyoko pattern is unique while remaining easy to sew. The dress itself is loose fitting and comes with a shortened top option as well as short sleeves. The skirt portion can be pieced or sewn solid. The hems and neckline are all enclosed in bias binding, self-made or pre-made.

The obi belt cinches the waist in for a more fitted look.

Tandy enjoyed climbing around all the rocks in the area. She declared it her castle with each rock being a different room. Her castle included a tiara room where she would go back and forth to select a tiara from a favorite princess. She thinks she is modeling Snow Whites crown at this point. If it's about a princess is usually makes her smile.

Hope you enjoyed a little history and pretty scenery along with the dress! Hope you can join us for the sew-along!!
