Modkid Kendall Skirt

Thursday, March 3, 2016

In the midst of Project Run and Play, I did a little pattern testing for Modkid. I think it is safe to say that the new Modkid Kendall Twirly Skirt is the skirt of every little girl's dreams, at least every little girls that loves to twirl to the point of dizziness. Both of my girls fit into that category!

With 12 large gores and 12 small gores, the pattern is like putting together a puzzle that fits just right. Those small gores give the skirt some body when standing still.

Then, they peek out with any movement and really give this skirt some twirl factor. Lightweight fabrics are suggested for the pattern, so I went with some poplin fabrics I had been saving from Mabel Madison. Working with poplins is just like working with quilting cottons, but the fabric is lighter weight, crisp, and wrinkles less. Great for apparel!

Patty made this version with her shirting weight Sanctuary fabrics.

Clearly Avery is in love!

Today, I'm sharing this simplified version over on the Modkid Blog. By eliminating the small gores of the pattern, you can sew up an even faster version that still retains some of the fun and twirl. So, think of the pattern as two in one!! Patty also includes instructions for lengthening and shortening the skirt to achieve an even larger variety of looks. Wouldn't this be fun as a maxi skirt?!?
