She enjoyed it so much that I saved a slice in the fridge for her actual birthday on Thursday.
Party Cakes
Tuesday, June 16, 2009
I can't decide which was my favorite project for the party, the cupcakes or Avery's dress. (We'll get to the dress in the next post.) I made strawberry lemonade cupcakes for the guests. It just sounded refreshing. The cake was my favorite lemon cake recipe from the first Magnolia Bakery cookbook. The strawberry-lemon buttercream was an adapted recipe by Toba Garrett. I piped the butterflies with Wilton's color flow icing based on a design from Peggy Porschen's book, Pretty Party Cakes.
Here is the stand in its final glory.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk7LkSkKrECb-7qDPEUscGiXq7aKLVJzkbTpN07H5N6pOAoXCaLVAYW_gN-famikW6iI7cvfIk1Ivtvt11d3irXQUVDi9-Bo_65FCiI24yULXh5xM7HQfkt8XSp1UWcFL8MLPqc301ONff/s320/DSC02317.JPG)
Avery's cake was the banana cake recipe from Alisa Strauss' Confetti Cakes book with a cream cheese buttercream frosting. Banana seems to be Avery's favorite food. She loves it plain or mashed in her oatmeal or cottage cheese. I wasn't quite sure how she would respond to the cake, but I shouldn't have been surprised when she tore right into it. Getting Avery to eat has never been a challenge. ![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkCTaLbn5u0feotSA181nNoMAtbJjIdUMH-aDCPAHLgFEtkqQsanJIas92orOwPtFInACUSt7ICXR20qMjGgwIuviciVO-dxDXyG9xKrYe9nijLLRb8YMPdwTMR4qdMG7JSVBJnfZi-NaD/s320/DSC02384.JPG)

I eventually had to cut her off.
