Baby Goods

In between big projects, I’ve been sewing up a few wee ones. Some for friends, but mostly my sister has been requesting gifts for her friends. I’m certainly grateful for the business and flattered that she enjoys giving my handmade wares.

My favorite diaper cover pattern comes from McCall’s M5084. I’ve never actually sewn the dress, but I’m constantly using these diaper covers to go with many of Avery’s dresses. The McCall's pattern is on the left; the one on the right was a freebie pattern. I really didn't like it at all, so I'm not going to pass on the info. Grab a coupon and get the McCall's pattern from Hobby Lobby if you need to sew some of these. It's a keeper.

Another favorite for little sizes is New Look 6576. It’s simple, but totally cute with fun fabrics.

I spotted this freebie a while back, and I just had to give it a go. I wish I knew about it when Avery was this small! The pattern is by Little Betty here.

We can’t leave out the boys. This is one of the rompers from Carla C’s pattern.

Orange Crush

Orange and red have really never dominated my color palate, but lately I'm loving orange. Bright vibrant orange, none of that burnt orange ugly shade. (Let me hear a Whoop!) This one screams happy summer lollipops or festive pumpkin time too.

Here are the details. The pattern is brand new from Jona G of Fabritopia. This is view C of the Sunny Scallop Dress. I can't wait to sew up the scallop version too! The pattern is fairly simple, but I had to make some notes to remind myself of little things the next time around. I also didn't use as much fabric as the pattern indicates. The main fabric is from the Weekends line by Erin McMorris. The lining at the bottom and the ruffles are from the loved Jennifer Paganelli.














Can you tell how much trouble I have narrowing down the pictures to put on the blog? It's impossible some days. I'm usually grateful to get one or two good ones, but yesterday was a good day. Of course, the bottom action shots show it all.

Here's the good news! I have enough fabric left over to list this one in the shop. I know, finally something new. Stop by the shop later today for the listing

Mix Matched

I interrupt the previous Texas trip posts to bring you some sewing. These dresses were for a custom order for a friend of mine. I had so much fun pulling these together. A little mix, but not too much match. The recipient paid the highest compliment by saying they looked like something from Cath Kidston.



The fabrics are mostly Tanya Whelan's Darla with a bit of Barbara Jones Bubblegum Basics. The pattern is Leila and Ben's Sweet Dress with modifications from this fantastic tutorial by TaDa! Creations. I love the bow detail.

Moving Sale

There are two items in the shop that are made and ready to ship. I've removed the custom made items until after the move. I also discounted the two remaining items, so go snatch them up while you can.

Little Miss Molly

Mary Jo shared these adorable photos of Molly in the dress I made for her. She looks so sweet!

New Pattern Love & Tweaking

I'm loving this new pattern from Jennifer Paganelli and Carla Hegeman Crim called the Cathy Dress. It is very easy to sew and produces such a sweet dress, or top if you choose. Of course, it's that much better when you use Jennifer's awesome fabrics.

Avery has a birthday party to go to this weekend with a Dancing Queen party theme. Too fun! She just had to have a little rocker outfit to help celebrate, so I tweaked these three patterns to come up with this romper. This was my biggest sewing challenge so far. I love using other's patterns to create something totally my own. Hopefully I'll have some great photos to show from the party. The fabrics I used here are Jennifer Paganelli's and Tanya Whelan's. I'm going to try to get the romper listed in the shop too.

All That Twirls

So, I was too impatient. I waited for the rain to stop, but the sun didn't quite make it out.

My sister gave me the Sewing Clothes Kids Love book for my birthday. This is the Insa skirt pattern using only the underskirt. I used the ideas from Jona's skirt here. You may recognized all the fabrics from Avery's Easter dress. This was a great way to use up some of those scraps! This one is going in the shop, so I can't wait to pick out some fabrics to make another one for Avery.

Speaking of Jona of Fabritopia, this is her Evelyn Apron skirt pattern that I have used several times before. I used the sweet fabrics from Tula Pink's Plume line. I love the vintage keys hanging from the trees in the main skirt fabric.

I'm listing this one as a custom item in the shop as well.

Okay, it's time to go study that camera manual so I can do more that just use the fully automatic mode. Wish me luck!

Two More Tutus

After sewing up these tutu dresses for a friend's charity organization, she requested two more for her nieces. I was happy to oblige. The first is almost identical to one I made for the charity with Heather Bailey's Pop Daisy fabric.For the second, I used Jennifer Paganelli's Dance with Me fabric. I wasn't sure I liked this fabric for clothing until I saw this cute outfit by Jenny at Sew Pretty Dresses. I knew it would be perfect for the simplicity of this pattern. What little girl wouldn't look adorable in all these ribbons, bows, and tulle?!? I've listed this second dress with the Dance with Me fabric in my etsy shop.

New Shop Stuff

I've been busy trying to get a couple more items ready for the shop. This is a new pattern for me by Farbenmix called the Vida jumper. I used a combination of Jennifer Paganelli fabrics with a sheet from Pottery Barn. I love all the fabric and trim options this pattern allows. I switched up the pattern's button straps for ties to allow room for growth, and because I just think they are cute.

I used almost the same fabrics in different ways to sew up one for Avery too.

I like to call this outfit her "passionate for purple" set. My favorite color is purple, so this bright combo makes me smile. I used Simplicity pattern 4203 for the top and Portabellopixie's ruffle pants for the bottoms. I added a little pocket detail on the back of the pants. The fabrics are from Michael Miller and Sandi Henderson.

Avery was a trooper for the photos since it was probably still in the 60's while we tried to capture these photos. (Don't worry, we had her coat on her minutes later.) Avery sure kept Liz on her toes trying to snap pictures while she ran about.

More Than a Blog

I finally did it! Sweeter Than Cupcakes is more than a blog; it's a shop now too. Head on over to SweeterThanCupcakes on Etsy to see what it's all about.I only have two items listed currently. The first is a custom listing for a baby size version of this dress I made for Avery.
The second is a ready to ship lovebirds dress in size 2T. This one is the Modkid Boutique Isabel pattern. I am in love with this new line of fabrics called "Leanika" by Dena Designs. I paired the Leanika fabrics with a Sis Boom Bellbottoms ruffle and Pillow and Maxfield's Ditto Dots lining.

We'll just have to wait and see how this goes. I will not make any promises to keep a large inventory. As always, my first priority is my family and sewing for my own little one. Whatever extra I can fit in will go into the shop. I'll post new listings here on the blog when they are ready to go to the shop.
