Modkid Zoey Summer Ensemble

I’m going to be totally honest with you, I wasn’t wowed by this pattern when it first came across my email. Since I’m always a fan of Modkid patterns, I certainly wasn’t going to turn down the opportunity to pattern test for Patty. I’m so glad I did! The fit of this sweet top made me fall in love with the whole Modkid Zoey Summer Ensemble. I mean seriously look at this cuteness! The other great thing is that the Modkid Zoey comes with two shirt versions and two short versions. By combining different options from each view, you can come up with several more looks.

I’ve sewn up view B for the top which features tabs at the shoulders and elastic cinching at the sides. The pattern calls for buttons and buttonholes at the front, but I used Kam snaps instead since the color was so great.

These shorts are view D with a flat front and handy side pockets. The solid coral I used here is an interlock knit for supreme comfort.

To tackle two projects in one, I did a little fabric design of my own to fit with this week’s Project Run & Play theme. The perfectionist in me is competing with the artistic side of me that loves the random sort of rustic looking lines. To achieve this look, I used acrylic paint mixed with fabric medium and painted on the side of a can wrapped with rubber bands. I placed the rubber bands in various widths roughly around the can, so the stripes would not end up perfect. It was nice to have small pattern pieces I could roll the can across.

I highly recommend including this pattern for your little’s summer wardrobe! It’s been so long since I’ve seen those cute toddler legs in shorts!!
