Project Run & Play Sew Along–Week 2 Stripes and Dots

Thursday, January 17, 2013

This week’s challenge from the ladies over at Project Run & Play was to use stripes and dots in any design. When it comes to stripes, I find knits have some of the best prints. I chose to combine a bold and bright striped knit with a chevron stripe quilting cotton. The toughest part about working with stripes is ensuring that they all line up at the seams. Careful cutting and lots of pins usually do the trick.

I managed to work in some dots with multi-colored buttons along the shoulder seams. The solid pink band was designed to help highlight the button accents.

I so wanted to build a lemonade stand just for some fun pictures in this bright summery dress, but we’ve had two days of rain and ice. I’m dreaming of sunny days and snowcones every time I look at the dress though. I had to get some pictures of this one is action, so excuse my sad attempt at a backdrop.

Bring on those sunny skies!!

  1. so colorful and cheerful, I like how you incorporated dots into it with the circle buttons. I think you are right that it is easier to find striped fabrics in knits. You are go at sewing with knit fabrics.

  2. cute!!! I need to learn how to do a nice neckline like that! :)

  3. I really like the "polka dot" buttons.

  4. I love it! It looks so comfy and fun. It's fun that our oldest daughters share the same name too! (although ours is spelled off the wall different) :D

  5. I really like the cut of this dress Courtney. Great attention to detail too. Good job!

  6. Great job, you should win the sew along this week!

  7. I love it! Perfect for this rainy day, a little bit of sunshine in this dress.

  8. What a fun comfortable looking dress! I love the sunny colors and the buttons at the shoulders.

  9. This is one of the sweetest dresses ever! And it looks cozy too.
