It’s that time again! Project Run and Play is in full swing with season 9. This season’s selection of contestants is amazing! I can only envision great things from them all. As for this week’s theme, it’s “Put me in the zoo.” I’m pretty sure the intent was to be loosely inspired by something associated with the zoo, but ever since Tandy’s Mary Poppins party, I’ve wanted to sew her a penguin dress. This was a great excuse to mark that one off my list!
Seeing Tandy hug the dress form when it was done, was all the validation I needed! Pockets never hurt either.
The pattern I used to get things started is the Farbenmix Celina. I rounded out the top of the bodice, adjusted the straps to use the mitten clips, and pieced the bodice for the penguin face. The fabrics are a dark grey corduroy from Joann’s and a Kona white cotton.
The beak and eyes are appliqued.
And, the feet are sewn into the seam to be dimensional.
The skate park made a fun “penguin environment” for our photo shoot / play time.
Aww, so cute!!! I love where you put the pockets and added little feet.
