Welcome Project Run and Play fans!! I am so thrilled to be a part of this season's competition. This is the only week I am guaranteed to be here, so I'm hoping to make the most of it. The challenge of Nothing But Knit is sure to bring out the best of each competitor. Eager doesn't begin to explain the excitement I have in sharing my look with you!
The cardigan is the key accessory that takes the look from just function to trendy fashion. I used a pattern from a Japanese sewing book, lengthening and slimming for the fit I wanted.
Because I love the look of quilted sweatshirt fabric, I incorporated this special touch on the oversized collar and pockets. I drew my design on some fusible stabilizer then ironed it to the right side of the fabric. Stitching over my lines and tearing away the stabilizer revealed the patterned design.
Color blocking just makes me happy. So do these colors!! All of the knits except for the sweatshirt fabric are Art Gallery Solids from Imagine Gnats. The stretch and recovery of these fabrics are perfect for an outfit that needs to move with an active girl making the pieces work for the athletic side. The top is a heavily modified Cecille Peplum from Lilygiggle. In addition to the color blocking, I redrafted the sleeves to be straight and fitted.
The leggings started with the Dressage Leggings from Jennuine Design. I inserted a seam to the outside of the knee to add a strip of faux piping. I made sure to serge all of the seams using stretch thread for maximum strength and stretch.
The voting has begun over at Project Run and Play. The lineup of designers is incredible, so I am sure each look will not disappoint. I hope to be back next week to show you my cos play designs!
Gah, I want this outfit for myself (although I would not look as cute in it haha). I absolutely love all the details and that cardigan is AMAZING!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mie! I loved everything about making the cardigan except putting the giant buttonholes in knit fabric. I was seriously holding my breath with each pass!
DeleteI LOVE the topstitching and color blocking! Wonderful job!!!
ReplyDeleteI saw the tease of the sweatshirt quilting on Instagram and knew I would love this one! It's really a great combination of patterns, and fabrics (especially colorway), and model.
ReplyDeleteI love this whole look! I would totally wear every piece if it were in my size.
ReplyDeleteSomeone way more talented than me needs to make that cardi pattern in adult sizing!
DeleteSo Trend!!! Love your work always and forever!! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou are making me blush Terri! Thank you!

This is so incredible. I'd like one in my size. All of it -- the color blocking, the piping on the leggings, the jacket -- excellent excellent work!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this outfit. There is something very "equestrian" about this look. Maybe it's the piping in the leggings? Either way, I would totally wear this outfit if it were in my size ;)
ReplyDeleteEquestrian style boots would cute with this too! Thank you!
DeleteI love this outfit. That top is so pretty, love the colours in it. Those leggings are awesome too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ula! I had fun searching for just the right color combo.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic! It looks like something I would find in one of the high-end children's boutiques. Great job - you got my vote.
ReplyDeleteThank you Trudy!! I love the idea of someone asking where did you get that instead of did you make that! Thanks for your support!
DeleteI adore this look! The cardi coat is especially awesome. I want to make one for my girls and for me!

ReplyDeleteThank you Carrie! I'll be both excited and nervous to make it to next week!
DeleteThe cardigan is my favorite too! (Maybe because I went with at navy blue cardigan this week too?) I love the color blocked top too. Everything is so good, from just the right amount of details without too much.
ReplyDeleteThe colorblocking on that top is fantastic... and I love the quilting on the cardigan!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore this! My Aevs wants me to copy the top for her so we will have to do that! I want that card I for me! Haha
