Have you seen the inspiration shared this week during the Merry Modkid Blog Tour? When I put this tour together for Modkid, I was giddy with excitement over the bloggers who agreed to participate. I've been blown away with their creations, and it makes me want to sew every Modkid pattern in a holiday style!
Since I was organizing, I decided to jump in on the tour with a simple and playful look for Tandy. I have had gingerbread houses and cookies on my mind, so that inspired this version of the Modkid Katie Skirt (affiliate link).
The top ruffle on the skirt is actually a flouce (cut in a circle) that gives it a little extra fluff. While that would be terrible on my hips, it's pretty adorable on a child.
The pattern uniquely utilizes the fabric left from the center of the circle flounce to create pockets, but I opted to omit those and continue my theme with the jumbo ric rac for icing on the "cake".
My mom found the cute gingerbread buttons at Joann's so I added a few along the front of the skirt.
My grand intention was to sew the Rachel Dress as a top to go with this skirt. The buttons would have been so cute down that front ruffle, but time got away from me. I added the buttons to a ready to wear shirt to tie it all together instead.
Here are a few more details you don't want to miss!
