Modkid Arianne

Modkid released the ARIANNE pdf pattern today just in time for some special holiday sewing!! I am a big fan of raglan sleeves, so I am thrilled with all of the possibilities with this pattern. There are three sleeve lengths provided, short, 3/4 length, and long with cuffs. The pattern includes the option for dramatic pintucks that radiate around the neckline too.

This first dress I made for Tandy the day we left on our Thanksgiving trip. All that to say, the short sleeve version without the pintucks is a very fast sew!

I used linen for the collar and Anna Maria Horner rayon challis for the body of the dress. The vintage black faceted buttons add a touch of glam. This was my first time to sew with rayon challis, and I loved it!! The dress is so softy and flowy. Tandy insisted on wearing on our plane ride to Texas.

For the next version, I wanted to create a dressy Christmas dress for Avery. The pretty pintucks and cuffs add those perfect details.

Before my great aunt passed away, she had gifted me with amazing buttons and trims from her vast collection. I knew she had been an avid seamstress, but I have recently found out that she was a designer for children's clothes for a period of time. We often talked about sewing, but somehow this never came up. How I wish I had some of her designs now! What I do have is a large collection of some of her fabric. My great uncle told me to go through a chest and take anything I thought I would use. It is an amazing collection. I have never sewn with most of the apparel type fabrics from silk to wool. I can't even identify most of them especially since I am so unfamiliar with them. This red fabric is just one of those. I washed a small sample before sewing with it to make sure I wasn't making something that would be dry clean only for a 7 year old. I am guessing it is some sort of silk blend, and the black fabric is probably some sort of suiting material. As you can see it wrinkles pretty easily.

I had to get a few shots without those wrinkles, and with Avery's hair up to highlight the pretty neckline. I went a little crazy with the Joyfolie Black Friday sale, and bought these pretty shoes. Avery LOVES them, and I kind of wish I had bought them in my size!!

Be sure to grab the Arianne pattern today at the sale price!!
